How Sweet It Is!

This weekend I had the pleasure of baking for my best friend’s engagement get together with friends. I am very close friends with her boyfriend as well, so I wanted to bring their relationship alive with the cake. They have done a 10 year long-distance relationship before sealing the deal with the ring. He was doing med-school in New York, while she was living in California. On her last trip to New York, they went to Niagara Falls where he asked her to marry him. From there, they decided to literally shorten the distance between NY and CA by driving cross country. So I decided to make a road map cake with important landmarks- Niagara Falls, Statue of Liberty, some Vegas dice (the numbers 2 and 4 represent 24 which is the day he proposed) and some surf boards and a palm tree to represent California.

The flavor of this cake was a repeat of the decadent dulce de leche with chocolate and candied walnuts.
