Baby Shower Cake

Today at work, my supervisor called me to ask if I can bake a cake for tomorrow. (For those of you who don’t know me personally, my full-time job is as an environmental engineer, I do the cake business on the side). Wednesdays are super busy for me, as I don’t get home until about 8:30pm. Since I get up really early to go to work, I only had about 4 hours to do this cake. It is now 12:52am and I am done with the cake! I didn’t think I’d be able to complete it since I was exhausted!

So ladies and gentlemen, this is my “I am so exhausted I don’t know what I’m doing” cake! 🙂 It’s frosted with buttercream and filled with strawberries. I have a close up of the fondant flower- that was my first attempt ever to make a flower out of fondant!

The back story to this baby shower is actually wonderful! The head honcho at work (who is approximately in his late 50’s) has three grown children, one of which is making him a grandfather soon. Apparently he opens his house to foster children, and ended up adopting two younger children. A few years later (fast forward to today), he and his wife decided to adopt another infant. The agency contacts him that they located the infants younger sister, and they decided to adopt her as well! Since they are adopting siblings, a boy and a girl, I decided to go with neutral colors on this cake. People like him make me so happy! What a golden heart!
